Most everyone has suffered from acne at some point in their life. While most types of acne are painless, it can be damaging to one’s self-confidence. The good news is there are many ways to treat the problem. Acne and vitamins have a connection because good nutrition is not only beneficial for the inside of your body, but your skin as well. Also, there are some vitamins you can try to help clear your skin along with your regular skin care routine. It is wise to consult your doctor before trying any new vitamins especially if you are taking medication or have dosage questions.
Probably the first course of action when it comes to vitamins and acne is vitamin A. This is the vitamin from which retinoids are obtained. Many dermatologists prescribe retinoids for acne, especially adult acne. There are also retinol products available over the counter but they are not as potent. Too much vitamin A in supplement form can be dangerous, so get yours from food sources like skim milk, kale, carrots, apricots, tomato juice and other foods.
If you have acne, vitamin B supplements might be a remedy to try along with your normal skin care routine with the approval of your doctor.
Many people are actually deficient in Vitamin B and don’t know it, so you may want to ask your doctor to run some tests and see how your levels are.
The vitamin B family is not just one vitamin, but several. For example, some believe vitamin B6 can play a favorable role in fighting acne.
Vitamin B6 does many things, including to help metabolize steroid hormones and reduces skin sensitivity. Studies have been done that show a decrease in menstruation-related acne breakouts in teen girls. Good food sources of this vitamin include fortified cereal, baked potato, bananas, trout, spinach, sunflower seeds, roast beef and more. Rather than popping a pill, consider enriching your diet with a wide range of healthy foods to get the vitamins you need.
